As a visual and instructional designer, I use graphics as a mean to support and enhance a message almost daily. Either to design a company’s report, a presentation or training content, part of my work involves analyzing any type of content, making sense of it and finding a way to visually represent that content. Finding a deeper meaning behind the graphics, and the story that I can tell, is a great exercise for me to transform raw, usually complex and abstract concepts into visual explanations. For this reason, before even thinking about the graphic, I ask myself what type of question(s) my audience needs to answer and how I can help them.

In this presentation, I shared my rationale to select a graphic according to the purpose of the message and how graphics can help you tell a story.
